Heading to SF for an afternoon flight and a new parking strategy
The significant detail of today was that we were leaving from SFO in the afternoon, 4:55 p.m. to be exact and not the usual crack of dawn departure from Sacramento. Our target was to leave Fair oaks at about noon, and after a stop at the bank and a crazy moment getting gas we were actually on the road by about 12:30.
The trip down 80 was very smooth, the least traffic I have seen in a long time, and we easily found the car parking place except for a brief delay when I first missed the exact location. I had found AVR parking on line the night before and it you paid in advance it was $5.95 a day for a two week total of $139. This relieved one of the early concerns about who we could get to drive us to the airport. All the usual suspects were all ready IN Europe, we didn’t feel comfortable having Zoe do it by herself and Robert had to work.
The shuttle from the parking place dropped us off a couple miles away at the Blue Train which took us right to the international terminal. Easy. Since I had already checked us in, we skipped the big line and walked right up to drop off our bags. By the time we got through security I think it was just about 3:30 p.m. Perfect. The wait went by quickly and we were on the plane and in the air by about 5:30.
Great seats in the back of a 747
The flight was uneventful. We sat in the far back of the 747 in only one of the three rows that had two seats which worked out great other than we were a bit too close to the rest room. This plane had a move-on-demand system so you could start, pause, or stop a movie whenever you wanted to. I watched Up in the Air with George Clooney, and The Book of Eli with Denzel Washington. The nine hour thirty minute flight went quite quickly.
